Lazio

Lazio has quite a big number of  wellness centres and thermal centres.
In this region you can find one of the most important spa resorts in Europe: Fiuggi Terme with its historical centre on a hill and a modern thermal complex plunged into nature.
The other thermal centres are: Canale Monterano, Castel S.Angelo, Castelforte, Ferentino, Palestrina, Palombara Sabina – Terme di Cretone, Rieti, Tivoli, Viterbo.

Spas in Lazio: Fiuggi Terme

The thermal complex on the valley is surrounded by chestnut, pine trees and oaks. Fiuggi was founded in the Middle Age and has preserved remains of towers and walls. The water in Fiuggi has a low mineral content. Over the centuries an area made of tufa has been created naturally through which water flows at a depth of 8-20 metres below chestnut, pine trees and oaks. The tufa formation is characterised by permeable and semi-permeable layers through which water is filtered thus reducing mineralisation and guaranteeing the therapeutic properties. The waters used by the  wellness centres in this area in Lazio come out of two springs that have given birth to two complexes: the Spring Bonifacio VIII and the Spring Anticolana. The Spring Bonifacio VIII was named after the Pope who was healed bu these waters. The Spring Anticolana is named after  the village Anticoli di Campagna, that was changed into Fiuggi in 1911. Its wonderful location offers the guests the chance to walk in the big park.
Especially hydroponic treatments are offered: there is also an inhalation centre, a centre for voice and massage therapy. The main therapeutic indication is related to the urinary apparatus, it is also advisable to treat metabolism and respiratory diseases.

Terme di Tivoli

Tivoli has an extraordinary historical and artistic heritage especially for its world-famous villas: Villa Adriana, Villa d’Este and  Villa Gregoriana. The thermal water used by wellness hotels in this area of Lazio is sulphur, carbonic, hypothermal. The “Albule” waters come out the lakes Regina and Colonnelle at a temperature of 23 degrees; they were called  “albule” by the Romans due to their whitish colour because of the gas emulsion that occurs on the surface when carbon dioxide and suphur hydrogen are released. They reach the spa having a capacity of 3000 litres a second. They were known at the time of the Roman Empire and were called  “aquae sanctissimae” for their therapeutic properties. Today the thermal complex is one of the most modern in Europe with two hotels and a health clinic. The treatments offered are:  aereosol, hydroponic treatmets, baths, insufflations, nasal showers, oral bath therapy, vaginal irrigations, inhalations, muds, massages, whirlpool baths. Skin, respiratory, cardiovascular, gynaecological, rheumatic, otolaryngological diseases as well as rhinogenic deafness and orthopaedic disorders are treated.

Spa in Canale di Monterano

The spa resort Canale di Monterano is located in the area around Rome on the hills close to the Bracciano Lake. The Natural Reserves in the area give the chance to go for walks in the beautiful natural environment.
The waters come out of several springs at a temperature of 25 and 56 degrees. An exception is represented by the bicarbonate-calcium-sulphur water called “Spring of Beauty” that comes out a temperature of 39 degrees and it is very effective for aesthetic treatments. Below the thermal complex you can still find a “sudatory cave” dating back to the Roman age where you can hear the water come out of the spring. The treatments offered by wellness centres  in this area of Lazio are bath therapy, inhalations, lung ventilation, counter-current swimming, whirlpool bath, mud therapy, sudatory cave, massages, gym, thermal pool. Respiratory, skin, rheumatic and locomotion diseases are treated.

 Wellness hotels in Viterbo

The city of Viterbo offers a very important historical and artistic heritage, with its striking medieval centre and meaningful monuments.
Along a line of 12 km there are several springs used by the wellness hotels in this area of Lazio. The most famous one is the hyperthermal spring, 58 degrees, from the Bullicame basin. Besides various therapeutic treatments, the spring is used to feed a pool of 2000 square metres plunged into nature. The historical spring of Bagno del Papa is also used. It derives from a layer below the complex. The volcanic lake “Bagnaccio” is plunged into a thermal swamp where wonderful Roman baths could be admired in the past  (Aquae Passeris). It offers a spring mud and a lava mud that are very rare because they mature naturally.  Thanks to the therapeutic properties the wellness centres offer various treatments: aereosol, baths, muds, nebulisations, lung ventilations, whirlpool baths, inhalations, insufflations, nasal irrigations, paths for vascular diseases, physiokinesis therapy and rehabilitation, sudatory caves, massages, sauna. The therapeutic activity is effective against genital, gastroenteric, cardiovascular, otolaryngological, metabolism, rheumatic, skin diseases.
