Puglia wellness centres rise near to the most famous thermal centres of the region.
Even if Puglia has a centennial tradition in thermae history, only in the last decades it enlarged its offer, building hotels with wellness centres and hotels linked to thermae, attending a large expansion of thermal tourism, which made famous several resorts. The thermal centres in Puglia are: Santa Cesarea Thermae, the Canne di Fasano Tower Resort, the Margherita di Savoia Thermae and the Rapolla Thermae. These places are very interesting also by the naturalistic, historical and architectonical point of view.
The thermal waters of Santa Cesarea Thermae
Santa Cesarea is a small town in the district of Lecce, on the Salento coast, between the Adriatic and the Ionian seas. The thermal facilities were built in1900, but the caves from which the waters (which contain sulphur, sodium chloride, sodium iodide and bromine) springs at 30°, were already wellknown in ancient times. The wellness centres in this area of Puglia give various treatments such as: balneotherapy, inhalations, irrigations and mud therapy. Moreover the thermal centre includes an aesthetic centre, a motory reabilitation centre and fitness programs. The healing suggestions are for othological, throat, and respiratory diseases; gynaecological, rheumatic and dermatologic troubles.
Thermal Centre in Puglia: Torre Canne
Torre Canne is a bathing resort, placed in a very interesting, naturistic, historical, artistic background. It is situated in the district of Brindisi, a few km from Ostuni and Castellana Caves.
The wellness hotels use cold thermal waters, at a temperature of 18°, which spring from two of the eleven sources, coming from the subterranean watercourses. These springs give rise to a small lake, which is situated in the centre of the thermal park and in which healing muds have been ripening for thousands of years. Waters predominantly contain sodium chloride, sulphate, alkaline, bromine and sodium iodide.
They give treatments of baththerapy, inhalations, treatments for rhinogenous deafness, mud therapy, insufflations, douches and hydromassage. The thermal centre of Torre Canne di Fassano also includes an aesthetic centre and a reabilitation centre.
The treatments are suitable for rheumatic, respiratory, othological, gynaecological, gastroenteric system, vascular, neurologic and orthopaedic-rheumatologic diseases.
Terme di Margherita di Savoia
In the province of Foggia close to interesting places from a religious, historical, architectural point of view you can find the Spa Margherita di Savoia. The hotels with wellness centre in this area of Puglia use the qualities of the mineral strong salt bromine-iodine waters. The springs were discovered and promoted by the Sabauda family and this is why the Spa were named after Margherita di Savoia.
In this tourist resort you can find the biggest salt mines in Europe, where by extracting salt from thermal waters the Acque Madri or Acque Rosse are obtained. They were already used by the Romans but have been exploited by the thermal facilities since 1930.
